Brain

I've always reminded myself not to use harsh word in front of the kids, lest they keep in their head and use them wrongly. But sometimes, I just can't control myself especially on YX when he shows me his mischievousness.

My BAD
One night, I get YX to brush his teeth before bedtime. After brushing his teeth, he makes my blood boiled by wanting to use his toothbrush to brush the toilet bowl ! I managed to stop him in time and gave him a good lecture. But out of control, I said "Can you use your brain to think ! bla bla bla..............

YX's version
MIL was feeding him dinner while baby XJ was disturbing him. YX got angry and scolded baby "You are very legil (degil = stubborn). MIL do not understand what is degil, hence asked YX to explain. This boy quickly answered " Use your brain to think la !" (in mandarin)

When we arrived home after work, MIL relate this matter to us, laughing. No. She did not feel offended but was rather surprised YX said that sentences. I quickly get YX to apologised to MIL for saying that but he did not seem to understand what was wrong. I told him it is very rude to use such sentences, especially to an elder. MIL just brushed it off and take it as a joke.

From that day onwards, I've reminded myself NEVER EVER use such word in front of the kids anymore as we never know when or who they will use such harsh word at. I felt rather embarrased when MIL told me about that incident. At the same time, I felt thankful for YX for I've learnt something valuable from him that day. I must be careful with my words.

Put that story aside. Tell me. How can my blood not boiled when YX wanted to use his own toothbrush to brush the toilet bowl !!!! Breath in......Breath out........

  1. Mommy, I am sorry but I just want to clean the toilet for you mah.. The toothbrush looks the same like the toilet brush oh. Hey, mommy, chill!;)

Kids copy everything from their family members, be it words or actions, good or bad. Hubby and I too have to remind ourselves all the time to watch our words and actions. ;)

  2. The story that you related here is not new to me, and it is not different at my home too. Children learned fast, we really have to watch out on words that we used. If you can't control and said something harsh or rude. We also have to remind them that they are not supposed to use these words to others.

  3. Me too... I will hard hard try not to use those words....

For your case.. in a BOILING MODE, I'll tell him.. in ANGRY VOICE... something like this:

Toothbrush is for your teeth, toilet bowl is for shee shee and poo poo. Shee shee and poo poo.. DIRTY or NOT? Soooooo.... Do you want me to put the poo poo and shee shee in your mouth or not? Soooo..... can you put the CLEAN toothbrush for your teeth to brush toilet bowl or not? ... Say... "SORRY MAAA"... Now.... why you cannot use toothbrush to brush the toilet bowl? ... bla bla bla (I might also pointed out the right brush to brush the toilet bowl)

I will only be satisfy until she gave me back a satisfy reason for me being sooo mad and apologize... then ended up with a kiss or hug and me not so boiling mode anymore.. haha

  4. Children pick up things fast, so we must be careful enough whenever they're around.
anyway, I think YX now knows that his toothbrush is only meant for brushing his teeth, but not anything else!

    Have a pleasant day ahead!

  8. Have to be careful what we say to our kids... Sometimes, they remember and keep inside their hearts for life...and they remind you of it at he most awkward moments! Consider their self esteem, their integrity... Bringing up children these days not like the time of our parents and grandparents - that time, anything goes!

  30. Oh dear *raise my hand up* I'm guilty of the same "crime" too... always telling C to use her brain and worse, asking where her brain is!

Talking about toothbrush and toilet, when C was a baby, she took a toothbrush from the bathroom (that I use to brush between the wall tiles) and put it into her mouth to brush teeth. I nearly pengsan-ed! Eeeeewwwwww!! Haha!
