Fake ?

Last Friday (25 Jun), YX was down with slight fever in the afternoon. The fever continues till Saturday and went off after we fed him syrup panadol. He was fine the whole Sunday, active and full of energy. But on Monday afternoon, his fever came back again, with high temperature especially during midnight. Then, I noticed he had some rashes all over his body. They are not that obvious unless you look really close. Worried, I brought him to see a doctor on Tuesday morning (even he has no more fever) and was told that he need a blood test. Doctor suspected either dengue or measels.

The ordeal of taking his blood was a real challenge. He was as strong as a bull, pulling me away and refusing to enter the room for taking blood samples. I coaxed and coaxed while he was there screaming away. Left with no choice, I had to drag him in with all my energy. I consoled him by telling him it only takes 1 minute for everything to be over and all he is going to feel is just a little bit of pinch. I covered his eyes with my hand and tell him not to look, while he was still there crying away. Once the needle poked into his skin, he shouted PAIN ! PAIN ! PAIN ! Oh my poor boy :(

When the results was out, I was relieved it is NOT DENGUE but measles. However, MIL said it is a FAKE measles because for she knows, the symptom is not like YX. MIL explained that a person will be very weak, have flu and lost of appetite. YX was still very active jumping here and there and do not have flu like symptom. Since doctor confirmed it is a measles, YX was told to be isolated because measles are contagious. Hence, I brought him to the office again for the whole week. The rashes are fading away with some still visible on his cheek and neck.

It is FAKE or REAL ? I have no idea. MIL believe the rashes are due to heat and not measles.

  1. My daughter also...had measles, doctor said dengue and forced to admit into hospital - in quarantine ward with other dengue patients...so many mosquitoes...lucky thing didn't get bitten and end up with dengue.

Also had to have her blood tested - didn't cry at first but the nurse kept pushing further in...and when she cried, the nurse scolded her saying, "Cry! Cry! What for cry?" I felt like taking the needle and stabbing her with it!

  2. Same case like my boy loh it call Roseola (found out by other bloggers comment)

"Roseola is an infection caused by a virus. It is characterized by a sudden onset of high fever followed by a rash. This disorder usually resolves on its own with no complications."

    Glad YX is recovering.

  3. It must be the measles season now, be it fake or real. I see so many kids getting it. Hope YX will fully recover soon! Take care.

  4. I think it is Roseola. Something like what your MIL said "fake measles". Xixi got once previously... Dr. had pre-alert us that rashes may appear after fever subsided. As long as he is back to his normal active him again, then u no need to worry so much :)

  5. Yes, it should be Roseola, my youngest got it also when she was 1 year old. Please be patient and take good care of her, as the rashes may need to take a few days to subside.

  6. I guess YX is having roseola. It's caused by virus, nothing to do with heat. It will go away by itself so nothing to worry about. Just the child may feel discomfort. Both my kids have it when they were about 10 months old.
