Under the skin

Pencil nib under his skin
Last week, YX came back from school with a 'souvenir'. Until today, we do not know how he hurt himself or being hurt by friends as he can't seems to give us an answer. The teacher was unaware of how this thing happen too. When MIL went to fetch him, he complaint of pain in the hand. MIL was shocked when she saw what happened and waited for us to return from work to remove the nib.

The skin was a bit red around the injured area
We tried to removed the pencil nib with a twister, but the pencil nib kept on broken into tiny pieces because of it's powdery form. To take out the nib was not an easy job too because YX refuse to cooperate. Three persons need to press him down and he was yelling on top of his voice. After we decided to gave up, my poor boy was soaked with sweat and tears.

Flavin to prevent the infections
To avoid any infections on the injured area, I applied some Flavin and covered with plaster. I checked his condition every day and was glad that no more redness around the injured area. We suspected the pencil nib must have fallen off and left the stain under the skin. No matter how much soap we washed, the stain still remains. Since YX did not complaint of pain anymore, we just let it be. Hope he won't bring back anymore 'souvenir' from his school or anywhere else in the future.

  1. my classmate once accidentally stabbed his mechanical pencil onto my finger and a small sliver of the lead went straight under the skin.. luckily i was able to take that out (with some pain), but then the stain seems like staying forever under my skin.. it was like more than 15 years ago~~

  14. Oh dear it must be very pain. You can use alcohol swab to clean and numb it before you try to remove the nib. For me using nail clipper to clip off the upper skin is much easier compared needle. But you need a good trick not to clip on his meat.

  15. This kind of accident is very common among school-going children, very much like having splinters embedded in the skin when holding a stick.

  18. Few years ago, my collg told me similar story on her son too! Then another older male collg (50 plus yr old) showed us his hand and there is part of a pencil lead beneath the skin. He said he never took it out since there is no problem...
