Bad Ulcers

YX just recovered from a series of bad ulcers and fever. He is finally back to school but will only attend for 1 week as the long term school holidays are approaching.

In fact, he had 2 batches of fever and 2 different types of antibiotic.

20th October 2012 ~ He had a slight fever. It was his kindy's graduation and concert day. He still managed to perform his dance despite of the fever.

21st October 2012 ~ He woke up with a bad tummy ache and still having fever. Brought him to the doctor and found that his urine was infected. Doc prescribed antibiotic.

Just as we thought he was fine after that bottle of antibiotic, he fell sick again...........

26th October 2012 ~ Woke up with fever. No complaint of any aching.

27th October 2012 ~ Complaint mouth pain. Checked and saw 2 ulcers and his gum were swollen. Still having fever.

28th October 2012 ~ Checked his mouth again. SHOCKED ! Found 8 ulcers in his mouth and throat. He couldn't eat as he can't bite. Drink milk with cereal was a problem too as the ulcers were hurting. Still having fever.

29th October 2012 ~ Brought him to the doctor. Took blood test and urine test. All normal. So doctor suspect viral infections. Gave him panadol only as he is still having fever. Doctor asked me to buy throat spray from pharmacy outside.

This helped to reduce the pain and worked as an anti-inflammatory too. RM25/bottle. He said tasted like mentos !

30th October 2012 ~ Crying in pain as having problem eating and drinking. I feed him every 3 hourly and he had only milk + cereal as his meals throughout the day. Still having fever despite giving him panadol.

Milk + Milo + Oats + Nestum. The only food he could swallow.
31th October 2012 ~ Brought him to the doctor again as fever did not subside. Did another blood test (that's freak him out) and results turned out normal. Doctor prescribed 1 week of antibiotic and give him more panadol. I continued to use the throat spray on him as it could soothe the pain. Started to eat bread soaked in his bowl of milk + cereal.

1st November 2012 ~ Could see improvement. Ulcers begin to heal but he still couldn't bite hard food. I prepared baby food for him. I had to mash everything up and feed him. He doesn't like the taste and doesn't have good appetite. He only ate half while I have to finish the other half. Still having fever.

Mashed Potato + tofu with a dash of salt.
2nd November 2012 ~ Finally, no more fever ! He is still on milk + cereal in between of his meal to keep his tummy full as he couldn't eat a lot. At times, he would eat bread. I cooked vegetarian mee suah for him. No meat as he couldn't bite. The only vegetables that suit his condition were bayam and carrots. Cut into small pieces so he can swallow easily.

Vegetarian mee suah with carrots, tofu and vege.
3rd November 2012 ~ Back to his usual mischievous self. Ulcers were getting better and better. Stopped using the throat spray as not required anymore. Still on Antibiotic. Finally can eat plain porridge with some fish and vege. Appetite became better and did not cry in pain when eating.

However, every night (from the day he had the ulcers), he always woke up with blood stained at the side of his mouth. I checked his lip but did not see any crack. I suspected the blood stained came from his gum.

Blood stained at the side of his mouth
5th November 2012 ~ No more blood stained and was eating well again. Have rice and meat as usual but I could see he had lost some weight. He is already a very thin boy and with this series of bad ulcers, he looked even thinner.

  2. HFM!!! Painful wor... Hope he will recover soon. Should be ok now as hospitals are familiar with it and they all know what to do...not like in 1997, the Coxsackie otbreak in Sibu.

    Take care all, God bless.

  10. Glad to hear he's fully recovered now. It must be so worrying that his fvr lasted for a wk. And on top of that, those horrible ulcers. I really really hate ulcers. The kids suffer a lot when they hv ulcers. So pitiful when they eat/drink in pain. Good thing the throat spray was a bit helpful. Also, luckily XJ was not affected.
